31 Aug In the Path of Harvey
Like all Americans we have been watching with horror the awful destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana. Our hearts ache and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the region. We know from experience that people with disabilities are more likely to feel a greater impact from the storm than other citizens. It will take longer and be more costly to repair or rebuild their homes and replace durable medical equipment and assistive technology devices many people reply upon. We know that people in New York State and across the country want to help those affected by the storm to recover and rebuild as quickly as possible. Just as with Hurricane Katrina, we continue to talk with people from our national organizations and will pass on any information we do receive if there are particular needs of the families and agencies for people with disabilities. We encourage anyone who can to help by donating to the American Red Cross, local food banks and organizations that provide support for people with disabilities and their families. – Susan Constantino, President & CEO, Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State
